David met Salif in The Gambia whilst rehearsing with Joliba, Salif had just returned from Guinee and, being a colleague of Samsou and an excellent musician himself, he automatically became a member of Joliba.
Salif contacted David when he arrived in England and they have worked together ever since, In 2002 the Kamara project secured funding from the Community Chest in Stoke on Trent to host a year long series of workshops with Salifou Sylla, this culminated in a performance at The Full Moon in Newcastle, a week later David and Salifou left for Guinee.

He now lives in London and can be contacted via telephone:
We are very sad to inform you that Salifou passed away in Guinea earlier this year, 2008. He will be greatly missed by all of his students and colleagues in Staffordshire.
Our thoughts go to his family in Africa and in Uk… wife Hannah and his 2 sons Ousman and Daniel….RIP SALIFOU…
